I have had an interest in gardening for as long as I can remember. I have fond memories of being in the garden with my mum as a child and as I grew up on a working farm, I became familiar with agricultural practices from a young age.
About me
I’m Annie Bushnell, a professional garden designer based in and around Oxfordshire. I have a keen eye for detail and a passion for the natural world.
I have had an interest in gardening for as long as I can remember. I have fond memories of being in the garden with my mum as a child and as I grew up on a working farm, I became familiar with agricultural practices from a young age.
I started my career as an artist and graduated from the Arts University Bournemouth with a degree in illustration; during these years studying I developed a deep interest in botany and a keen eye for detail, colour and composition. It had become very apparent to me in my final year of study that I wanted to pursue a career in horticulture, while using my drawing skills professionally, this led me to begin exploring the idea of becoming a garden designer.
To pursue becoming a garden designer, I felt the need to further my understanding of gardening practices, so began and completed a RHS level 2 course. While completing this, I was also working for an award winning garden design and maintenance company in Oxford, maintaining gardens, assisting with soft landscaping and planting up designs by the in-house designer.
I then went on to complete a Garden design course and a further extended course at Waterperry Gardens in Oxford, while setting up my own business and subcontracting for a Eco gardening company in and around the Cotswolds. I continue to develop my skills through my own research and completing courses with famous garden designers such as Piet Oudolf on Learning With Experts online.
Since then, I have worked part time for an award winning garden designer in Oxford, drawing up and designing planting plans for many different styles of gardens. I work with local gardening companies to design plans for their clients to suit their various requirements. As a small business owner, I am working on growing my business every year, providing bespoke hand drawn designs and planting plans locally around Oxfordshire and remotely throughout the UK.
I also offer follow up maintenance to my clients, plant sourcing, planting up and help finding the right contractor for you.
I hope to hear from you soon!
